What exactly is included in the winter check?
We measure battery voltage and starting capacity, check tyre tread and pressure, the brakes, coolant, washer fluid and antifreeze protection levels, all lighting including fog lights, and how the heating and demisting perform. You get an overview of what is fine and what needs replacing or topping up.
What is the difference with the holiday check?
The checkpoints largely overlap, but the emphasis shifts: for the holiday check we look extra at the air conditioning (which you really need in summer heat), tyre pressure under full load and the spare wheel or breakdown kit. The winter check puts more emphasis on the battery, antifreeze and lighting during short days.
How do I know if my battery needs replacing?
A battery loses capacity with age, usually noticeably from 4 to 5 years, and that loss accelerates in freezing weather. With a test device we measure the actual starting capacity, not just the resting voltage, since a battery can show a normal resting voltage while no longer delivering enough power in the cold.
Do I need winter tyres for Roeselare?
It is not a legal requirement in Belgium, but below 7°C winter tyres perform noticeably better than summer tyres, even without snow. If you drive a lot of early mornings or evenings during winter, the investment is worth considering. We are happy to advise based on your driving profile.
