Frequently asked questions
How long do brake pads and discs last?
Pads typically last 30,000 to 70,000 km, discs 60,000 to 120,000 km. Your driving style makes a big difference: lots of city traffic and towing shorten the lifespan considerably. At every service we measure the remaining thickness so you know exactly where you stand.
Do discs always need replacing together with the pads?
Not always. New pads on lightly worn discs is perfectly fine. If the discs are under the minimum thickness, warped or deeply grooved, we replace them too, otherwise the new pads bed in badly and wear unevenly. We show you the measurement before replacing anything.
Why replace per axle and not just one wheel?
Left and right must brake identically. One new pad next to a worn one gives uneven braking force and a car that pulls sideways in an emergency stop. That is why we always replace both sides of an axle at the same time.
What is that squealing when I brake?
It is often the wear indicator: a metal tab that deliberately starts squealing when the pad is almost gone. It can also be dust or rust on the disc after a rainy spell. If the squealing persists, drop by; the check is done in no time and costs nothing.
Does brake fluid really need changing?
Yes, every 2 years on most cars. Brake fluid attracts moisture, and moisture in the brake circuit lowers the boiling point: under intensive braking your pedal can suddenly sink. We include the change as standard with a brake replacement when needed.
