Air conditioning service and regas
An air conditioning system loses a little refrigerant every year, on average around 10 percent. After a few years it cools noticeably less, the compressor works harder and you burn more fuel for less comfort. A timely regas keeps the system healthy and prevents expensive compressor damage.
We work with both gas types: R134a for most cars from before 2017 and the newer R1234yf for recent models. The price difference between those gases is significant, which is why we show the price per gas type. A full air conditioning service also includes a leak check, inspection of the compressor and dryer, and on request a disinfection against musty smells.

Why does the price differ per gas type?
The newer R1234yf gas is considerably more expensive to buy than R134a; you see that difference at every garage. Which gas your car needs is on a sticker under the bonnet and mainly depends on the build year: roughly before or after 2017. We check it for you, so you know the exact price up front.
How often should air conditioning be regassed?
Every 2 to 3 years is a good rule of thumb. The system loses a little gas each year through the lines and seals, even without a defect. Wait too long and the compressor no longer lubricates properly, risking a repair many times more expensive than a regas.
My air conditioning smells musty, what is that?
Moisture condenses on the evaporator behind your dashboard, and bacteria and mould grow in that damp environment. You smell them as soon as the ventilation starts. A system disinfection plus a new cabin filter solves it; we gladly include it during the aircon service.
Should the air conditioning run in winter too?
Certainly now and then. The aircon dries the air, clearing fogged windows faster, and running regularly keeps the seals supple and the compressor lubricated. An aircon that sits idle for months wears faster than one that runs regularly.
The aircon still does not work after a regas, what now?
Then something more is going on: a leak, a faulty compressor, a stone-damaged condenser or an electrical issue. That is why we never refill blindly: we measure pressure and temperature and trace leaks with contrast dye. You get the diagnosis and a quote first, then you decide.
